CRISIS RESEARCH CENTRE - CRC

Before August 5th, a group of researchers, politicians, teachers, professionals, and intellectuals in Bangladesh closely observed smooth economic growth alongside growing political tensions. Frequent strikes led by students set the tone, with deepening divisions in public discourse, both for and against the ruling Awami League (AL). After August 5th, they witnessed a massive shift following the ousting of the Sheikh Hasina government and the installation of a government led by Dr. Yunus. This change reflected Dr. Yunus’s personal grievances, as he joined the conspiracy to topple the Sheikh Hasina government. Now, under his leadership, Bangladesh is moving toward destruction. The current regime’s surveillance of media, academic, and political freedom is intense. Pro-independence individuals and activists face numerous challenges, such as restrictions on free expression and limited autonomy, a?ecting research, education, and political activism. The post-August 5th period has deepened a sense of caution and self-censorship within Bangladesh's intellectual community. From the CRC platform, the publication Rise of Monstrous Autocrats in Bangladesh is one of the first initiatives to highlight the importance of documenting the actions of the current autocratic government. Due to both known and unknown restrictions, the full extent of atrocities cannot be captured in a single episode, which adds to the sense of pain. More fact-based information will surely emerge as the situation evolves.Amidst these dire circumstances, CRC has appeared with a new mission: to promote research on socio-political issues, providing the people of Bangladesh with an opportunity to understand their struggles for democracy in futere. CRC also seeks to foster stronger bonds among all stakeholders to protect Bangladesh and develop policies for future progress.
